5 DECOR ELEMENTS TO ADD TO
EVERY

ROOM… ACCORDING TO
AN INTERIOR DESIGNER

🔥 MY ROOM DESIGN RECIPE 🔥

Whether you realized it or not, there’s a room recipe interior designers follow, even if it’s one they’ve made up all on their own. Here’s mine.

  1. PLANTS — REAL OR FAUX
It absolutely blows my effing mind when someone tells me they aren't a "plant person." Umm... we are all plant people, you just don't realize it yet.

If there was one thing I would recommending adding to every single space in your home or business, it's a plant. Real or faux, plants add an element of life and coziness to a space that few other things can achieve.

Plants are an absolute must for me.

  2. WOOD TONES
I mentally reviewed a few spaces I've done when making this post, and there was another thing they all had in common: wood tones. Even if you don't have a large wood element to your space, like hardwood flooring, you can bring in the warmth of wood through decor pieces, furniture, and more.

I'm a strong believer that every room needs warmth, and wood is an incredible, natural way to incorporate that.

  3. METALS — AND DON’T BE AFRAID TO MIX THEM!
Matte black. Brushed nickel. Brushed gold. Raw brass (be still my beating heart). I love adding metals to my spaces through hardware, decor, lighting, furniture, and more. When mixed with plants and wood, for example, metals get a special little spotlight of their own, and they make a room feel intentional and high-end. Pretty sure that's a win for all of us.

  4. MIXED TEXTILES
Another good one to mix - textiles. Boucle, linen, cotton galore. They are all so beautiful, feel so rich, and look so gorgeous when combined into different spaces. Think blankets, pillows, towels, rugs, curtains, headboards, and lots of layering.

Pro tip: I love mixing different fabrics of the same color. For example, a boucle cream pillow placed in front of a larger cream linen pillow.

  5. LIGHTING OPTIONS
I've noticed this is absolutely something that people who aren't familiar with design struggle with, and it makes sense. Those builder-grade homes feed us some pretty overhead lighting like recessed, sconces, or ceiling fans, and sometimes we get a sconce or two. But so many people forget that in order to achieve an extra cozy affect at all different times of day, you need more than one type of lighting. We want to make every level seem cozy, yeah?!

Pro tip: For a living room, pair an overhead light with a floor lamp, table lamps, and a sconce or two.
